Life as I know it has completely changed, once again. I still can't believe that Jack arrived three weeks early, or that I'm sitting here with this precious baby who is already four weeks old. I had asked many moms the question What is harder? Having your first child, or going from one child to two? Obviously, the answers varied from mom to mom and there seemed to be no general consesus. One month after having Jack, I can tell you my answer. Both situations are hard! And, they both bring more happiness than you can ever imagine. The challenges are different for each mom and for each new addition. With Davis, I think it took me about a year to accept my new identity and all that went with it. This time around, I am confident in who I am and what I'm doing, but I don't know how to do it with two kids! Everyone says it, but you don't realize how "easy" one baby is until you have your second. I've learned that if everyone says it, it might actually be true. Annoying, but true. I have enjoyed the newborn stage more this time around, mainly because I know that the sleepless nights, the thirty diaper changes a day and the hours upon hours a day spent nursing will all improve dramatically over the next couple of months. With Davis, is just seemed endless and I lacked the self-assurdness that things would get better. I can look at Davis now, with his head full of curls, his silly dimple grin and his grubby little boy hands and know (with certainty) that the newborn stage is fleeting.
My heart is filled with love and adoration for my little boys, and I truly feel blessed to be able to raise them with my husband. He's a most wonderful daddy and supports us all in every way. And, I can't leave out Lucy. After almost losing her shortly after Jack was born, I was reminded of how much she means to me and of her place in our family. She's been wonderful with Davis, and I'm hopeful Jack will get to grow up with her in the same way Davis has.
We couldn't have made it through the first month without the help and support of our friends and family. With tax season still three weeks away from ending when Jack was born, people really stepped in and helped in every way. I am so appreciative of the meals that were provided and the help that was given. I'm not sure that we would have survived otherwise! I'm still not quite sure how I'm going to handle things like cooking dinner now, but I'll figure it out! And, I'll be sharing stories along the way.
